QUILTING FEET BASICS

Are you a quilter seeking to learn more about how to use your many quilting feet?
Join Debra Ewing as she guides you through the ins and outs of using the most common quilting feet, including:
• 1/4" foot
• Walking Foot (including walking foot guides and optional walking foot accessories)
• Stitch-In-The-Ditch foot (to do professional-looking SITD, make “Franken-batting”, and machine sew binding on both the back
AND front of your quilts)
• Open and Closed Toe Free Motion Feet
• Hopping Foot
• Ruler Foot
• Left and Right Compensating (aka Bi-Level) Feet (for machine sewing a beautifully straight line of stitching to attach the
binding to both the back AND the front of your quilt)

as well as a few beautiful quilting stitches that are part of your machine and can be used with the Walking
or Ditch Foot. Gain the knowledge and confidence to take your quilting to the next level.

Prerequisites:
Must have general knowledge of how to use your current machine including winding bobbin, threading
machine and sewing experience

Feet required for class: 1/4", walking, free motion, Stitch-in-the-ditch.  Cynthia's offer 20% discount for all class accessories.

SUPPLIES LIST:
• 2 Fat Quarters (light or medium colored – preferably no print)
• Batting to put between the Fat Quarters (Please DO NOT assemble quilt sandwich before class)
• Contrasting 40 or 50 weight cotton or polyester quality (i.e. not “old”) thread that will show well on your FQ sandwich
• Full Bobbin of contrasting thread (same kind as top thread) that will show well on back side of FQ sandwich
• #14 Topstitch needle (Janome and Elna machines need Janome Purple top or Red top needle)
Bring extra needle in case one breaks
• 24” Ruler for marking
• Frixion pen or Chaco marker that contrasts well with your fabric – or a Herra Marker
• Rotary Cutter and 18 x 24 rotary cutting mat (if you have one); otherwise there are some in classroom
• Scissors (small snips)
• Seam Ripper
• Screwdriver for your machine
• Machinger (or other brand) Quilting Gloves

• Quilting Feet
• 1/4" Foot (with or without guide)
• Stitch In The Ditch Foot (a MUST – please purchase before class if you do not have one)

Janome 9 mm machines can use a 7mm High Shank Ankle and a Brother Left Bi-Level Foot as a workaround,
since Janome does not currently carry a Left Compensating/Bi-Level Foot
(The Left Compensating/Bi-Level Foot is for machine sewing quilt binding on front of quilt after first attaching to back of quilt using the
1/4" or Right Bi-Level foot. No more hand sewing binding!)
• Free Motion Quilting Feet (need one of the following - Hopping, Open Toe, or Closed Toe Foot)
• QO, QC and QV Feet (optional – used with Janome 9450, 9480, M6, M7, M8 and M17 models)
