BEGINNING WHEAT WEAVING CLASS



Wheat weaving is a FOLKART, centuries old.  It is suspected the first "corn dolly" or wheat weaving, was made in the shape of a maiden to represent the fertility of the grain.  The original name, "corn dolly", comes from Europe where all grain is called corn.   Here in the United Sates we refer to this art as wheat weaving.  These weaving are considered to bring good luck and happiness to those who have them in their homes.  
Instructor Rita Weber, straw artist, has been weaving straw for over 30 years.  She has taught multiple classes: from kindergarten aged children to adults.  Rita is a member of the National Association of Wheat Weavers (NAWW), Has held national offices in this organization, and is currently the editor of Gleanings, the association's magazine.
